FAQs

What tools do I need for ironing fuse beads?

To iron your fuse bead designs, you'll need a few helpful tools to make the process easier and more convenient:

  • Masking Tape: Used to secure your finished bead design before carefully removing it from the pegboard.
  • Lint Roller: Helps remove any dust or loose particles from your design and working area.
  • Baking Paper: Placed between the beads and the iron to prevent the beads from sticking to the iron.
  • Heat-resistant Mat: Provides a heat-resistant surface to protect your work area during ironing.
  • Iron: Used to melt and fuse the beads together.
  • Tweezers: Useful for picking up and adjusting individual beads when needed.

Having these tools ready before you start will help make the ironing process smoother and more organised!

Can I iron my fuse bead design directly on the pegboard?

No! We strongly recommend that you do not iron your fuse bead design directly on the pegboard.

Most fuse bead pegboards are made of plastic, which can be damaged or deformed by the heat from an iron. Direct ironing can shorten the lifespan of your pegboard and may also create safety risks.

Instead, carefully remove your bead design from the pegboard using the masking tape method before ironing it on a suitable heat-resistant surface.

Always follow the recommended ironing instructions and take care when handling hot tools.

What types of ironing sheets can I use for fuse beads?

There are several types of ironing sheets and materials that can be used when ironing fuse beads. Some commonly used options include:

  • Baking Paper: A readily available option that creates a barrier between the beads and the iron.
  • Baking Cloth: A reusable option designed for heat-related crafting.
  • Towel: Some crafters use a suitable thin towel as an alternative, although results may vary depending on the material.
  • Tea Mat: Another option used by some fuse bead enthusiasts.
  • Glitter Fabric: A specialised material used by some crafters for ironing fuse beads.
  • Glossy Ironing Sheets: Designed for crafters who prefer a smoother, glossier finish.

A Little Tip: Different materials may produce different finishes and melting results. Always check that your chosen material is suitable for ironing and follow the recommended instructions for your fuse beads. Never use materials that may melt, stick to the beads or release harmful fumes when heated.

How do I choose the right ironing sheet for my fuse bead projects?
